Why Women’s Health Week hits different this year

Kimberley Caines • September 2, 2025

Women are brilliant at looking after everyone else - but when it comes to our own health, we're often last on the list.

That's why Australia's Women's Health Week matters. It's not just another awareness campaign; it's a national call to action to finally prioritise ourselves.

This year's topic that resonates most with me is "Take the lead". Too often, we wait for symptoms to get worse, for the right time, for someone else's permission. Taking the lead means asking the hard questions now, booking the appointment now, saying yes to yourself now. It's simple, but it's radical.

Running alongside is Fertility Week - and to me, the overlap couldn't be clearer. Fertility is still treated as tomorrow's problem, but age remains the biggest factor, and one in six couples will experience infertility. Waiting doesn't help. Knowledge does.

That's why I built PreservHer. After freezing my eggs in my 20s, I saw firsthand how confusing and overwhelming the process can be. I wanted to create a space that gives women straight facts and real stories about egg freezing and fertility before it becomes urgent. Because knowledge is power - and when women have it, they can truly take the lead.

So this week, as the headlines call on women to put themselves first, I want to leave you with one question: When was the last time you truly said yes to you?
